Products And Services

  • Optometry

Dr. Nakagawa chose this beachfront office because he loves the ocean. Our proximity to Marina Del Rey Hospital also means that we can freely collaborate with neurologists, oncologists, rheumatologists, immunologists, endocrinologists, and cardiologists to better serve you. Our office has five examination rooms, allowing us to provide timely care. Each of our rooms serves a different purpose. Our ultrasound and imaging rooms contain state-of-the-art technology that allows us to begin screening patients for diseases while we treat other patients. Our reception area is equipped with coffee and water for your comfort.

  • Macular Degeneration Treatment

If the condition is diagnosed early and treated appropriately, regular and attentive treatment can slow it down. In certain cases, patients can keep their vision for decades. Researchers are currently evaluating the effectiveness of numerous treatment options, including nutritional supplements and therapies that could further slow down AMD. Because this disease typically develops later in life, patients can take measures to reduce their risk early on. Simple lifestyle changes, such as regular exercise and a balanced diet, can help significantly.

  • Eye Drops

For many patients, eye drops can efficiently resolve or manage your condition. However, if you are not seeing improvement in conditions such as pink eye, dry eye, or glaucoma, you may need to speak with your doctor about other options. You may simply need another type of drop or you may require alternative medication or surgery. Your doctor can guide you to the best treatment for your needs. Over-the-counter eye drops can effectively address issues like dry eye and allergies. However, if you are experiencing ongoing pain, contact your doctor to find out if you need a prescription medication.

  • Glaucoma Treatment

There is no known cure for glaucoma, and any resulting vision loss and other damage cannot be reversed. Treatment is intended to control the condition and maintain a healthy intraocular pressure. Even after surgery, you may still need to take medication regularly to prevent vision loss. Although glaucoma cannot be cured, remember: many patients manage their conditions effectively and live full, healthy lives. In order to maintain your vision once you have been diagnosed, it is essential that you take your prescribed medication daily and ensure that your prescription is filled regularly. Certain lifestyle changes can help you maintain your vision, as well, including keeping a healthy diet, exercising regularly, reducing your caffeine levels, staying hydrated, and sleeping with an elevated head.

  • Monovision

With monovision, you do not need to carry reading glasses. You can read text messages and menus without having to rely on cumbersome corrective eyewear. Today, the ages at which presbyopia can develop (35 to 50) are by no means considered "old," but bifocals and reading glasses can certainly make you feel that way. Wearing contacts, having intraocular lenses implanted, or undergoing LASIK or PRK surgery can achieve monovision. Patients often begin by wearing contacts, and if they like the results, they can choose a more permanent solution.

  • Emergency Eye Care

Just because you have redness, irritation, or swelling in your eyes does not mean you have to worry. These symptoms do not always call for an urgent trip to the doctor. These symptoms could simply be a sign of allergies or other non-contagious eye conditions. However, when in doubt, give us a call and we can help determine if you are experiencing an emergency. Health emergencies do not keep normal business hours. Fortunately, neither does Dr. Nakagawa or his dedicated team. We are available to our patients on a 24-hour basis and can see you on any day of the week if you need emergency eye care. We understand that these emergencies can be frightening, and we are here to help you determine whether you need an emergency visit.

  • Eye Exams

Having your eyes examined on a regular basis is important because many eye diseases and conditions cause few or no symptoms in their earliest stages, and the only way to know your vision is at risk is with a complete and comprehensive eye exam. Conditions like diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts and even tumors can remain asymptomatic and undetected until permanent vision loss has already occurred. Plus, eye exams can look for vision changes that could require eye glasses to correct and to prevent side effects like eye strain and headaches. Regular exams are especially important if there is a history of eye disease or vision problems in your family.
